Short Bio

I am currently working on my elementary licensure. Children's literature is the only class I need. I have found myself interested in children's historical fiction books. I am a big sports fan, especially football(NM State Aggies & Chicago Bears) and basketball(Sacramento Kings).

MY CURRENT FAVORITE BOOKS (IT MAY CHANGE)

My favorite books are a mixture. There is THE STINKY CHEESE MAN AND OTHER FAIRLY STUPID TALES by Jon Scieszka. I Like this book because it puts oopmh into fairy tales that needed the makeover. The Stinky Interview THE STINKY CHEESE MAN.../Jon Scieszka My second book is MARA, DAUGHTER OF THE NILE by Eloise Jarvis. I loved this book because it dealt with anicent Egypt. It has adventure, mystery, rich descrptions, and it even has romance. MARA, DAUGHTER OF THE NILE/Eloise Jarvis McGraw My third book is HEROS, GODS, & ROMAN MYTHOLOGY by Kerry Usher. I picked this book because I am a mythology buff. I also remembered reading something similiar when I was in elementary and only looking at the wonderful illustrations. Heros, Gods, & Roman Mythology/Kerry Usher My last book, TOMORROW'S SPHINX, is a book I did not really want to read. I am not a science fiction buff so I kept putting it off. The only reason why I checked it out was that it was also about ancient Egypt. Well, I found out this book was one of my favorites. It deals with cheetahs, in the future. Somehow a black cheetah can communicate with another black cheetah from ancient Egypt. The whole book is about cheetahs and how they are able to communicate. A lot of issues are tackled in this book: abandonment, ecological disaster, mind communication, and dealing with being different. TOMORROW'S SPHINX by Clare Bell (Currently out of print)

MY FAVORITE AUTHORS

ELOISE JARVIS McGRAW-She is one of my favorite authors because her writing is so descriptive. Two of her books dealt with ancient Egypt. Another dealt with a fairy folk who had to deal with being different (The Moorchild). She also wrote a book called Pharoah, this is for older readers. JON SCIESZKA-He is one of my favorite authors because he offers a new spin to old tales. He takes the point of view from the unheard characters in famous tales. I only wish he was writing when I was growing up. Jon Scieszka

MY FAVORITE ILLUSTRATORS

I consider Lane Smith to be one of my favorite illustrators because his work is dark and sarcastic. They have this humor to them. I always wondered why fairy tales where always so light and happy, with pastels colors (I am not a big pastel fan). So, I was throughly pleased when I saw the rich, dark hues of oils used by Lane Smith. Lane Smith
