"Sometimes you need a story more than food to stay alive." By Barry Lopez
Personally speaking, I know when my parents are telling stories it seems to me that they are actually getting a type of nourishment out of the story. I also know that the stories of how their parents came to the U.S. is very important and each time they tell that same story it continues to nourish them.
Have a great day!

"Stories in print might survive a little longer, but stories that are spoken must be told again. The stories only live in the telling." Jim Garry
Wow! That's so true for stories, because stories that are written of course you become aquainted with the story, but actually hearing that same story hits home and makes you connect with an actual event that might have happened to you.

And sometimes Lucy, it seems like we need those stories in order to learn from our parents past. That to build appreciation for what you have a story is a tactful way of saying that what you have is something we gave you. I liked that quote also, I almost picked it, but changed my mind to another posted above, I even commented on it after even further reflection.

Yeah, I know, it seems like you hear the voice in your head when you read it, but when you hear someone else read it and put in their feelings and emotions, it is sooooo moving!!! I remember hearing this storyteller talk about love, I tell you it was absorbing and then it caused you to reflect upon something because you got an auditory AND visual telling.
Bravo Lucy!!!

Hello, Frances Vitali. How are you and Maxime doing? I hope all is well and you two are not getting into any trouble. I am doing great myself. I am trying to get all the materials for this class. I have researched a few authors that I am interested in reading so I am excited to start my reading journey.

I ran into some problems with the blob site. I am not sure if it is me or the computer. I will assume it is the computer. So that is why I am sending it to your email. I hope that is fine.
Journal Entry

I liked all the quotes but there were a few that stood out and grabbed my attention. The first and my favorite was :
?The lines in a face tell a story;
The lines in a face sing a song.
The lines are a keepsake of moments gone by,
Choices we?ve made, right or wrong.
And we earn our lines from our stories:
We earn our lines from our songs.
Trace the patterns and the story unwinds,
Who we are is in the lines left behind.
Julie Shannon in The Power of Story by Collins and Cooper 1997
This quote stood out to me because it is how I would describe my grandparents in my family. I only have grandmas left but I think they are so beautiful with their wrinkles that represent the lines in the quote. I think that each wrinkle represents a stories of their life. When I look at my grandma Faye, I see what life has done to her and I see the hardships she has gone through. I know she has not always made the right choices but tells us her grandchildren to make the right choices through her stories.

The second quote I liked is:
?The stories we tell not only explain things to others, they explain them to ourselves.?
This quote reminds me of how men and women, mostly women who like to gossip. I have two old friends who like to talk and tell stories about other people and when I read this they popped right into my head. I think they don?t realize they are just like everyone else and all the stories they tell to each other are about each other. I think it is funny how humans work that way and most often we don?t realize it.

The third quote:
?But truth changes color depending on the light and tomorrow can be clearer than yesterday. Memory is a selection of images, some illusive; others, imprinted indelibly on the brain. Each image is like a thread. Each thread is woven together to make a tapestry of intricate texture and the tapestry tells a story, and the story is our past.?

I just love this quote because it can represent just about anything in life to explain family, love, or children. I think of my boyfriend, Jason who is great at keeping positive images in his life and can easily let negative images out of his life. He always tells me to hold onto positive things in life because it makes it easier to tell stories of the past. I think his way of thinking would help a lot of people especially our students in the classroom.

All the quotes had great meaning but these were the few that I connected with on a personal level. I enjoyed the quotes. Thank you, Terri Ortiz

"Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is."

I find the quote to be rather true. I find that when my child reads books that she enters a world of fantasy and enjoys that area. How I know this is she tells the story to me as if she is actually there in the story. I can see the excitement in her eyes as she tells the story. There is also a sense of reality between the lines. The moral to the story, which brings us back to reality.

Hey Terri,
I liked your journal entries. I particularly enjoyed the last. Aaron is like your boyfriend Jason, and many times we don't appreciate that we have to pull some of our tapestry threads out. Yes if we want the beautiful tapestry with the silvers and the golds we will always focus on the silver lining of that cloud--the positive things in life. And I'm always amazed at what happiness Aaron derives from people and the interest they hold. These threads I hope will be passed on to Raven. Thank you very much, Terri, I never considered it like that, thank you for sharing your insight.

Isn't it funny what hindsight says. I appreciated your comment because it shows reflection and application of a quote, sometimes I consider a quote and think how neat it is but your application hit home, thank you Anne.
